Errol Samuelson-- Real Estate Interview

Samuelson discusses the future for online communication

ErolsErrol Samuelson is the President of Top Producer Systems and Senior Vice President, Software Group, Move, Inc. He oversees corporate strategy, product development and new business ventures for both Top Producer and The Enterprise, a division of Move, Inc. The Enterprise offers real estate brokerages custom Web and video production services as well as interactive voice response systems.

As a recognized real estate industry leader, Errol is involved in the real estate community, speaking at numerous conferences and active on a number of technology committees. He was a charter member of the Real Estate Transaction Standard workgroup, a member of the Employee Relocation Council's eSolutions Think Tank, and currently serves on the National Association of REALTORS® Internet Strategy/Technology Work Group.

Previously Errol served as Vice President, Product Strategy for Move, Inc., formerly Homestore, Inc., and in 2000 he led the strategic acquisition of Top Producer Systems. Prior to joining Move, Inc., he was Director of Sales and Product Management at GTE Enterprise Solutions, with responsibility for the Real Estate and Mortgage Banking vertical markets. Errol was also one of the original designers of T-III, a ground-breaking system that introduced interactive mapping and Internet networking to the Multiple Listing Service® business.

The Future for Online, Non-sensory Communication

  1. Generation Y is completely comfortable with online chats, blogs and other interactive tools such as Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia created and edited by its users.
  2. Generation Y looks for: (1) participation-they are not content to be passive observers; (2) transparency-they are sensitive to marketing spin; (3) accessibility; (4) timeliness.
  3. Top Producer is already trying to meet these expectations by building timeliness and accessibility into its systems; the company is also creating platforms that allow agents to begin participating in and experimenting with interactive experiences.
  4. For example, the TP Website product line includes a blogging platform; engaging the public through a blog represents risk-taking on the part of agents, but doing so can build a following in the community and brand agents as an expert.
